Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features Teor (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.
Casimir then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the party enter areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Questers and Strategists tables.
Audiences can anticipate learning which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
