It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have long been mastered.

We're talking about the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to six more T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, those for the achievement hunters, are the only things left for a team that has accomplished all there is.

The fact it required until Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the highest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a compliment to the bowling attack that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their batsmen to hold a record if never given the possibility.

Finally, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to produce her latest masterpiece.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 championship victory arrived three months after her bow and seven global championships have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

That loss "pushed us to reevaluate our levels," Healy stated recently.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the final and was named player of the tournament. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this recent magnificent innings exceeded that prior achievement is debatable.

Some will argue the reasoning behind final game tension. Others can counter with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's definite is this century was considerably tougher to see coming.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 came as she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"For those following me in training, it was a disappointing period because I feel like my form was missing whatsoever," stated Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your competitive nature kick in and you simply focus on the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in replacing iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but this time it merely gave Healy's motivation.

A single was taken off Gaud's first delivery and from there the right-hander was on her way.

"The possibility to play and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself in that regard, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 balls - her swiftest at the World Cup - and her century in 84 balls as she attacked short-pitched balls, striking 21 boundaries and three maximums.

By the time she was removed the team required another 66 at a run-a-ball - an unconquered height now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I'm happy we have the confidence to achieve that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it again but, if we do, we are confident we can do it."

That comment will be the last competing nations at this World Cup want to hear.

During the last week a sense they will succeed regardless of circumstances has only strengthened - this success following victory over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite sitting at 76-7 at one point.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they left last year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a game Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she subsequently stated she regretted not playing despite the injury.

Yet even as she later admitted those injuries have postponed plans to retire, this tournament is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as captain.

Success in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
